Need advice on a Seagull guitar - please help

Postby pnikola007 » Wed Feb 03, 2010 2:28 pm

I plan to buy acoustc guitar this days and in my local store in my country Macedonia, Seagull seems to be the best for their price. Everything else is China or you have to order it from he net. I want to buy the model "Coastline S6 Slim CW Spruce QI" because thats the only one they have, next to "S6 Cedar Original". I want the first better because i need it to plug it for gigs, so CAN ANYONE TELL ME MORE BOUT THE GUITAR. DO YOU RECOMEND IT, AND WHAT DOES SLIM MEANS. ON THE SEAGULL SITE IT SAYS THAT THIS MODEL HAS MORE BRIGHTER TONE. DOES THIS MEAN I AM GETING A GUITAR WITH OUT NO BASS AND "BALLS", OR SHOULD I SAY WITH A THIN SOUND?

The best way to know is to try it in ur local shop, unplugged and plugged!!!each guitar could be so different even in the same serie!!!

I could be wrong, but the slim suggest that the body of the guitar is smaller in the width section. This obviously hinders projection and sounds because it is the depth and size of the body that give a louder projection and sound.

Because the first one is an electronic guitar, most of them are created with less resonance because the pick up does all the sound amplication. Also the sound you end up wanting depends on the plug in and effects and probably can be tuned to sound you prefer.

If you plan to play your acoustic without the plugin more often than with it, it may be more advantageous to buy a full sized dread and install an aftermarket pickup later down the line.

I purchased the coastline spruce S6 slim with the cutaway and electronics. I'm pleased with it! The slim refers to the nut (neck) width . The neck width on a regular S6 is 1.8 inches wide. The neck width on the S6 slim is 1.72 inches. Not a lot of difference. I think the 1.72 inch neck width on the S6 slim is comparable to the neck width on most other accoustic guitar brands. The regular S6 with the 1.8 inch neck width is actually a little wider than the typical accoustic. My advice is to play a regular S6 and a slim and see which one you like better. It will depend on the size of your hands, the style of playing and personal preference. I don't think there is any difference in the body between a regular S6 and the S6 slim. It's the same deal with a spruce vs a cedar guitar. Cedar has a little deeper tone, spruce has a brighter tone (more treble). Again, play both and see which one sounds better to you.

Good luck!

Mayberryman is correct! Slim refers to a slimmer neck width than a standard seagull would have. Standard seagulls have a "wider than normal" guitar fretboard to enable easier finger picking. A seagull "slim" model would be slightly harder to finger pick, but fretwork would be easier for a smaller hand due to the narrower neck size.
